DRIER-TIEDEMANN BLOCK
Project type
Heritage Integration and Purpose-Built Rental Housing
Date
Ongoing - Development stage
Location
Downtown Vancouver, BC
Located at the western edge of Vancouver’s Victory Square neighbourhood, the proposed development at 430 and 440 West Pender Street is a context-sensitive, heritage-integrated project that balances the preservation of historic architecture with the delivery of 80 units of affordable secured market rental housing and 2 commercial units. The site consolidates the two early 20th-century properties, the 1913 Drier Block at 430 West Pender and the 1909 Tiedemann Block at 440 West Pender.
The development proposal includes the conservation of the north-facing Edwardian façade of the Tiedemann Block and reconstruction of the Drier Block façade while adding a 12 storey mid rise behind it to accommodate for the 80 secured rental units to Vancouver’s downtown housing.
