EAST 14TH CHARACTER RETENTION & INFILL
Project type
Character Retention & Infill Development
Date
2021
Location
Vancouver, BC
Located on the east side of Vancouver near Woodland Drive on the north side of East 14th Avenue, this character retention project refreshes an early twentieth century home while adding gentle density through a thoughtful rear addition and a new infill residence at the back of the lot. The street facing building maintains its established bungalow scale and familiar roof form, updated with renewed shingle style cladding and carefully detailed trim to reinforce the original character along the block.
At the lane, a compact gable roof infill introduces contemporary living space and integrated parking, with upper-level glazing and outdoor areas oriented to bring in daylight while protecting privacy between homes. Together, the retained front house and rear infill create a layered courtyard condition and a clear separation of entries, supporting long term livability within the varied architectural fabric of the neighbourhood.
